More about music

You may ask, “Why does Rose talk about music so much?” And I would answer with words that are not my own, “Without music, life would be a mistake.” (Friedrich Nietzsche)

As I said before, I just picked up The Dresden Dolls newest album (which came out in 2006- yeah I’m a slacker, so shoot me!) and I loved it! So I brought out their first album and started listening to it again and I realized how much I missed my punk-cabaret. I feel a little piece of myself coming back. Plus, I’m loving The District Sleeps Tonight EP. I downloaded another song from the Postal Service that isn’t on the Give Up album called Be Still My Heart (Nobody Remix) and I love it so much, too! Then today while James and I were at Border’s I found some CDs on clearance. (Music on clearance somewhere other than Hot Topic? Kick ass!) I only bought one (there were only two good ones and one of them was a Dead Kennedy’s album that I bought years ago) and its this amazing compilation of Neko Case, Joseph Arthur, Neilson Hubbard, The New Pornographers, and some other pretty amazing bands. I love it! I also downloaded every Dresden Dolls music video I could find. I’m dying for the new Postal Service album. I have a list of music to buy that is about 1,000 feet long. Its an addiction. Also at Border’s, I found a book called This is Your Brain on Music by Daniel J. Levitin. The book is all about the phenomenon that is music: how our brains respond to it, how it “gets stuck in our heads,” why every culture finds music essential, etcetera. Yeah, I could go on forever but in the words of Elvis Costello, “Talking about music is like Dancing about Architecture.”
